COCONUT ISLAND - KOH MAPRAO

Ma phrao is the Thai word for coconut.

Even though Koh Maphrao is only two kilometers away from the east coast of Phuket, the atmosphere on the two islands is very different.

Phuket is known for its full range of development with facilities and bustling lifestyle, while Koh Maphrao is a peaceful isle set in natural surroundings.

Koh Maphrao is one of Phuket’s minor islands. Looking over from Laemhin pier, Koh Maphrao is just a stone’s throw away. The area of 2,620 Rai on the island is mainly occupied by a coconut plantation.

Fishing and farming are the two main occupations on the island: rubber trees, local fruits and vegetables are grown in the central part of the island. There are three easily reachable beaches on Koh Maphrao: the longest one is on the northern coast, in front of The Village Coconut Village.

TEMPORARILY CLOSED

Dear Friends of The Village,

I am sure many of you are aware, the situation surrounding the virus COVID-19 has created significant challenges for the tourism industry around the world. Here in Thailand all borders have been closed, mandatory closures of swimming pools and additional curfews likely. As a result, I am very sad to say we have been left with no option but to temporarily close the doors of our hotel from 01.04.2020 until 30.06.2020. This is unprecedented for us and a decision that was not taken lightly. The team here have always had only one goal which is to serve all of our guests with the greatest of hospitality every day, all year around. Rest assured however we will be back up and running as soon as the world gets back on its feet.

If you are worried for the well-being of our staff, please don’t. All staff are still getting paid by the hotel and for all our wonderful foreign work force they are able to come and stay in the resort free of charge. Not a bad place to be spending the next few months whilst the troubles of the world improve.

As I am sure you can imagine this situation has put huge financial strains on us, so I truly hope when the time comes for you to make your next holiday then you might be able to consider coming back to help support the people that love to make your dream holidays come true.

I would personally like to take this opportunity to wish you all the best during this time. I hope wherever you are in the world that you and your loved ones remain safe and healthy.

For any guests with bookings checking in between now and the end of May 2020 please contact [email protected] to discuss hopefully changing your check in dates. For any guests that wish to come on holiday from 1st June onwards please also contact [email protected] quoting #savethevillage for incredible rates to get us back on our feet again.

Again, thank you all and I hope to welcome you here again soon.

With love from all The Village Team

Tom Gordon
